Plan B Dessertery

Nestled in the vibrant and bustling Zone in Rosebank is Plan B Dessertery, a pretty and modern dessert hub. They sell a variety of items like the super trendy bubble cones, dessert tacos, filled churros and really, really cool water bottles. Plan B also supplies your standard drinks like coffee, lattes and milkshakes.

Listen, if you live far away from Rosebank (like in the East, like me), this is totally worth the drive. Our good friends Dylan and Courtney joined us, and they agreed. These cones were to die for. No, really. You don’t think you’d ever take a blood oath for a dessert, but man, these were that good. Not only were they delicious, they didn’t require selling a kidney on the black market! The prices are exceptionally reasonable, costing us R115 for two bubble cones and a still water.

Before we get to the food, can we just talk about how awesome these water bottles are? Notably not made in China, this brand collaborates with local artists as well as gives their Instagram handle and credit, which we think is awesome.

Granted, it’s water, and doesn’t have much of a taste but it does certainly up the game from your simple bottle that you find at the garage. These bottles also discourage single use bottles, giving you something stunning to use daily.

Now, onto one of the holy grails of Instagram worthy food – The Bubble Cone. The Puffle Waffle. Whatever you want to call it, you can’t deny how Instagrammable and alluring these things look. Like the individual bubbles are filled with secrets and temptation. (Just kidding, but probably)

I got the Wimbledon which had vanilla ice cream, strawberries, crushed meringue, cream and chocolate sauce (holy moly it was divine), Connor got the Lemon Meringue which was filled with vanilla ice cream, lemon curd and toasted meringue.

Dylan got the Chocoholic (Sans caramel sauce) and Courtney got the Rainbow Nation (sans caramel popcorn). The staff was more than happy to oblige with any special orders or requests.

Granted, they were filling, but surprisingly balanced in flavour and textures. The cones were light and fluffy and easy to break apart with a spoon (which is super useful when it comes to chowing down). The Wimbledon had tartness from the strawberries; super sweet from the meringue and the cone brought everything down into alignment with some warm and toasty waffle vibes.

So, we decided that since there are so many awesome things we want to try, we'll come back, and we did.

We came back recently with Connor's parents, and tried some new things - the churros, and the dessert caramello taco. Again, majority of the comments were good, aside from the occasional sweet tooth cracking.

The churros weren't as light and fluffy as we've experienced before, but still delicious. We also found on some of the cones and desserts, the sweetness can be a bit heavy handed, but again, this is to everyone's preference.

If you find yourself in the area, or keen to go on an adventure, we definitely recommend Plan B Dessertery. If you want to treat yo’self, get coffee with friends, a sneaky treat or just a really bad Tuesday, Plan B can help. Friendly staff, cute and trendy decor and those damned delicious bubble cones; Plan B is perfect for it.

Stay full and in search of adventure, everyone.

Steph and Connor
