ONO Eatery

Say hello to ONO!

Aren’t they just gorgeous?

Little known fact about them, they also make delicious and fresh Poke bowls!

Okay, so it isn’t really ‘little known’, but they do hide themselves pretty well in Illovo Junction.

Connor and I visited ONO Eatery on a calm Saturday afternoon, and loved every minute of our little trip.

So Poke (po-keh) is “Hawaiian to ‘slice’ or ‘dice, this dish is a traditionally Hawaiian starter. Fishermen would take their fresh daily catches of Tuna and other meaty fish and chop it into cubes, and eat it right then and there – no compromise on freshness or flavour.”

“No compromise on freshness or flavour”? Sounds great to us! If you want to read up more on Poke and ONO, they website is loaded with awesome info like the above.

Firstly, isn’t this decor just so fresh and modern? We loved the giant circus light branding, with fresh greenery everywhere. The highlight was definitely the open bar style of the section where you could order, and see your meal compiled and created in front of you.

This place is self service, so go on up to the counter and order from the shiny mirror menus.

Surprisingly enough, for a place that offers one style of food, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Ono also does breakfast bowls, protein and non shakes and your poke. We also loved that there is plenty options for vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters!

Seeing as it was afternoon, Connor and I both opted for the medium poke bowls.

Connor grabbed the Prawn Sriracha with sushi rice. You had the option to choose which base you wanted.

The sriracha sauce was delicious and complimented the prawns and other accoutrements in the bowl.

I was leaning towards the Tiger’s Milk Chicken but instead chose to make a custom bowl, to which I added black rice (tastes pretty much the same as normal white rice, but has more fibre and antioxidants), chicken, avocado, pineapple salsa, edamame beans, radishes, seaweed and a citrus vinaigrette.

To be fair, if this didn’t taste good, it would’ve been my own fault, but it tasted pretty great, because each individual item was tasty and prepped well.

The staff was friendly and helpful, and suited the styling of the eatery as a whole.

The medium bowls filled us up pretty well, with some food to spare.

We found the pricing to be fairly reasonable, ranging from R85 for medium bowls and R115 for large.

ONO is really suitable for quick, on the go meals, and, bonus, they're available from Mr Delivery and UberEats.

Overall, we enjoyed the fresh and delicious bowls that ONO offered, and the fresh and gorgeous decor.

We recommend ONO for a quick a bite, go and check them out!

Stay hungry for adventure, friends.
